Computer Cabling Roadmap - Parallel |

| |
Parallel (Printer) Connections Most computers have a single parallel printer port that uses a DB 25 connector, also known as an IEEE 1284 connection. The other end of a parallel cable can have one of two types of connectors: either another IEEE 1284 DB 25 connector or a Centronics connector. Which one you need depends upon the printer you are attaching and the difference is easily recognizable. Warning: The DB 25 connector used for a parallel printer port and some printers looks just like a serial DB 25. It is not the same; look for the printer symbol next to the port and remember that a DB 25 directly affixed to the back of a computer is the parallel port. Serial DB 25 connectors will be on the end of short cables coming from the back of a 4 line multiplexer or 4, 8, OR 16 LINE Digiboard. |
