Computer Cabling Roadmap - Serial Ports |
<<Back Next>>
| |
Serial Devices Serial devices are quickly becoming obsolete, but many of our clients are still using them with older peripherals. Most computers now only come with a single serial port using the DB 9 connector, but the 4 port multiplexers and Digiboard C-Cons used DB 25 connectors, and some Digiboards even used RJ 45 connectors. Warning: Serial connectors are easily confused. DB 25 connectors are used for both serial and parallel ports. A computer will usually never have a DB 25 pin port on the back that is anything but a parallel port. A serial device can also be connected using RJ 45 connectors directly into a Digiboard or through a connector that converts it to a DB 9 or DB 25 connection. |
