Telephone(RJ11)

If you have a dial up modem on your computer you will usually have two RJ 11 ports on your computer, and usually on an add in slot. If you look closely you will notice that one says "Line" and the other says "Phone" or has a picture of a telephone. Run an RJ 11 telephone cable from the "Line" port to the outlet in the wall. The phone port can be optionally used to connect a telephone set to the line.

The RJ 11 looks like the RJ 45 but it is smaller (about 5/8ths an inch compared to about ½ inch). While it can be plugged into an RJ 45 Ethernet port, it won't work. There should not be a gap between the plug and the sides of the port.
